If you like a watch without a wrist presence – looks like an average joe chrono from 1 meter away and dont mind getting a sharp edges but looks good in the wrist shoot tthen u buy this piece.. if u like wrist presence but looks average on wirst shoot then 007 nttd is better than new speedy buy of course at hefty price
I don’t like the new model at all compared to the 1861/63. The new model has a stubby case and the finishing of it is inferior to the old model. I voted with my wallet and bought a NOS hesalite model exactly like the one you had, Guy.
I am thinking about shifting my Rolex fund to get this Speedmaster. A year ago, I had no interest in an Omega Speedmaster, or any mechanical chronograph for that matter, but this one is growing on me. Heck, at this point, I am sure I can rebuild my Rolex fund well before I ever get “the call” from a Rolex AD.

Also it is good to mention that crown is more reachable and easier to operate then the prevoius version.
A great review Guy, super clear review with what has changed from the outgoing model to the 3861. I have the 1863 sapphire sandwich and that standard bracelet fits me just fine although I can appreciate that some wrist sizes (and fluctuations in size in some temperatures) it may not work. My wrist size is the exact wrong size for one of my other pieces. I’ll wait a while before considering this one even though it’s a better watch in most ways I still really connect with my outgoing model. The dial is easily one of the best as you say Guy and comparing it to the far less busy dial of the Explorer is praise indeed for any watch dial.

The new end links reduce the overall lug to lug on the wrist pretty significantly. Wears much smaller
Glad to see you back guy. I have a friend that’s an AD and he called me earlier this year when they were about to run out of the 1861 hesalite models which is the one I wanted. I was going to get the new one, but the deal was really good and I have no issues with the design of the 1861. I must say that I do love it and I don’t envision it ever leaving my collection
