Does an Omega watch retain its value the same way a Rolex would?
I own an Omega 57 and it’s one of my favorite watches in my collection. Great review!
Hate the sandwich cutouts on the black dial faux patina model. The coloured dial versions are much nicer but they’re all too expensive.
If you needed to chose just one, would you go for the dark side of the moon or this one ?
As much as I like the new dial options for Omega 57. There is at least two negative things for me that will prevent this model or in general speedmaster models to be in my collection or on my wrist. First one is the fact that there is no rotor. If the space is a concern then micro rotor is a way to go. The fact that you always have to think about manually winding that watch even if you using it 24/7. Second thing is that pen*s at 12:00 will never let me buy this watch, or the speedmaster in general. Of course this is heritage and the history and everything that comes along with it but as much as I respect all of that I cannot see this watch being on my wrist and me always noticing that. The positive thing I like the dial and the moment finishing.

Great review – balanced, expert, understated and reasoned. How’s it going in the modern media landscape?! We can only hope the approach catches on! But the watch? A sleeper hit I think. A cool, classy choice; for me, in the black. But the market will have to get accustomed to two things – the broad arrow and the manual wind. I’ve a Pro and a Seamaster Trilogy, so I like both, but they’re still a hard sell to the mass market. I think the price is high, but is it fair, relatively? The quality of the watch is in no doubt, but the market got addicted to cheap Speedies and even now, is the ’57 worth 30%/£2k more than the Pro? Up against most mid-market competition (Rolex, Panerai, IWC), it seems great value, but the main competitor is probably Breitling and their Navi B01 is £1k less…
0:44 under 30mm thickness is not that impressive tbh..
We need more video reviews from you RJ, I do enjoy them! The blue 57 is a very beautiful thing, but somehow the built for purpose of the Moonwatch does it for me. Also for a smaller wrist I find it more wearable in the 3861, and that’s why I have one, the 57s are a bit “long”. There is also the price…
