■前立腺肥大症（ぜんりつせんひだいしょう）
加齢とともに前立腺が肥大する病気です。
主症状
・排尿困難感が生じます（勢いがない、時間がかかる、力む必要がある、尿切れが悪い）。
・残尿感があります。
・頻尿、夜間尿があります。
生活上の障害
・尿失禁。特に、尿意を伴う切迫性尿失禁、残尿があふれ出る溢流性(いつりゅうせい)尿失禁などがあります。
予後のリスク
・膀胱(ぼうこう)留置カテーテルを導入している場合、尿路感染症の発症のおそれがあります。
・薬剤の使用等による残尿量の増大や尿閉(にょうへい)のおそれがあります。尿閉には緊急の導尿が必要です。
気をつけたいこと
・安易におむつを着けず、排尿状況（時間、量、尿意の有無など）を確認し、トイレ介助等に結びつけます。
・排尿障害は、脳血管障害や心疾患、腎不全、神経変性疾患などでも起こります。

診断のためには、排尿障害の程度、前立腺の大きさ、前立腺癌との区別が必要になる。
尿検査
超音波エコー検査
断面のサイズとしては、左右径35ミリメートル (mm)、前後径20mm、上下径25mm程度が正常上限とされる。
前立腺容積としては20ミリリットル (mL) 未満が正常または軽症とされる。
20mL<前立腺体積<50mL は中等症、50mL以上で重症とされる。
